The house was built in 1926 by James Brunton, senior, a carpenter by trade, who later lived with his family in the D. B. Grant house on 48th Avenue.

The family moved into Ladner from Port Guichon in 1926 and stayed here until 1941. The exterior is rather plain now but originally had considerable detailing in the gable, including a window, and porch, which was on the right side has been filled in. The bay window on the east side is an interesting feature which has been retained.
